January 6, 2024: Susmit Sen, a guitar legend and master composer who has given the world a whole new brand of music, is best known for having created the iconic band, Indian Ocean, in the early 1990s. Later, as a maverick musician, he went several notches higher when he launched another self-styled band, Susmit Sen Chronicles, churning out yet another new brand of music.
In his second innings as the founder of Susmit Sen Chronicles, as a solo performer, and as the lead of the travelling unit of Susmit Sen Trio, he has focused on weaving together a brand of experimental music – call it ‘ocean music’ or whatever you might want – which is far more deeply engaging and meditative than ever before.
In this candid interview with Empire Diaries, the iconic guitarist and thinker talks about his life with Indian Ocean, Susmit Sen Chronicles, and much more than music – commenting on topics such as imperialism, the social rat race, and cultural hegemony.
