The Gulf kingdom of United Arab Emirates is hosting this year’s climate summit under the banner of COP28 UAE.
Organisers are trying their to best to hide the extravagant drama behind the carefully selected, serious-sounding name – COP28 UAE. But the fingerprints of a farce are all over it. In this video report, we are looking at how the world’s corporate bigshots have hijacked the climate conference, being held near Dubai, and turned it into mockery.
What is COP28 UAE all about? It’s a climate conference where administrators, activists, and weather experts are supposed to meet. They are supposed to discuss ways to tackle climate change. They are supposed to brainstorm and find ways to reduce CO2 emissions. But that’s on paper. In practice, COP28 UAE climate talks have morphed into a big, bad party involving 84,000 self-important people travelling to the lavish venue and leaving behind an inexcusable carbon footprint.
